Zebrafish Facility

Our clean room consists of two 15-rack recirculating aquaculture systems (Pentair Aquatic Ecosystems) and features dusking and dawning diurnal lighting control. For research or breeding projects requiring alternate light cycles three racks on one of the systems can be programmed independently. Both systems combined have 2,600 tanks and a holding capacity of greater than 60,000 zebrafish.

Basic parameters including temperature, conductivity, and pH are monitored by a state-of-the-art electronic system that provides continuous real-time data to maintain ideal housing conditions. Biological water testing is completed weekly.

The first procedure room consists of a single Pentair Aquatic Ecosystems rack, capable of housing approximately 2,000-3,000 zebrafish. The second procedure room consists of a four rack system (Pentair Aquatic Ecosystems), capable of housing approximately 6,000-8,000 zebrafish. The latter is equipped with its own work space to allow for behavioural studies. Our quarantine room consists of the same system as the first procedure room, as well as a storage room and a prep room.
